About Us
History
Here at the Colonial Motel, we embrace our history as much as we constantly strive to improve on our guests experience. Since it's humble beginnings in 1952, The Colonial Motel has been on U.S. 2 in Manistique, MI across from beautiful Lake Michigan. What began as 11 rooms has grown through the years to 19 rooms and a quaint little two bed cabin with a kitchenette. Our rooms have a northwoods ambiance which have been tastefully updated yet still retain knotty pine and Rittenhouse log furniture.
Management
Please allow me to introduce myself, my name is Michael Phelan. While I’m the owner of the Colonial Motel, I prefer to think of myself as caretaker of the property during my time here as the Colonial has been here since 1952 and has had many owners through the years contributing to it’s rich history. It is my number one goal to provide you, my guest with clean and comfortable lodging at a price that’s always fair and affordable.

1959
This is what the current lobby looked like in the late 1950s. It served as a restaurant that served primarily breakfast to guests. When you stand in our lobby, you can almost imagine guests from a bygone era of a much simpler time enjoying a meal.
Present Day

Our Signature Sign
Our sign which is mostly original dating back to the 1950s. When lit up at night, it beckons the weary traveler on the open road like a beacon in the night much like the Manistique lighthouse does for boats on Lake Michigan.
